» Domaine Wardy Wardy has a portfolio of 12 wines, including five varietals and a very gluggable, Christmas blend. Owner Selim Wardy has now produced what he calls a Private Selection red from Syrah and Cabernet picked from what he tells me is the highest vineyard (1,700m) in the Middle East, using the lowest yield (20 to 25 hl per ha). When all the marketing dust has settled, what we have is a terrifically suave wine that, while a little pricey, is a fine ambassador for the new generation of Lebanese wines. There is a Private Selection white, made from Viognier and Muscat, possessing excellent acidity and with a terrific nose of mango, peach, and nuts. UK stockists not known. ARAK ARAK WARDY A superior arak distilled from the best quality grapes such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and the typical Obeidi of the Bekaa. With the best aniseeds, and matured for two years before bottling. If offers a smooth taste, rich but subtle. ARAK GHANTOUS & ABOU RAAD This longstanding favorite (Lebanon’s best selling arak for decades) is an excellent arak distilled three times from fermented white grapes with the best aniseeds to produce it’s famous smooth taste. CHATEAU LES CEDRES Chateau les Cedres is a rich and complex red wine where the firm earthy core of Cabernet Sauvignon has been interwoven with the deep peppery aromas of Shiraz and the subtle fruity flavours of Merlot. Maturation in new French oak enhances the harmony of the blend, and adds a smooth woody finish. Delicious with red meat and game. Best served at room temperature. CHRISTMAS WINE A yuletide treat, our Christmas special is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon offering a wonderful palate of red fruits, nuts and warm spices, with lots of harmony and flavor. Best served at room temperature. LES TERROIRS A pleasant red wine, blended from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan & Caladoc. If offers very good structure and smooth tannins with hints of fresh black cherries. Excellent with Lebanese & Italian cuisines. Best served at room temperature. RED WINES – VARIETELS CABERNET SAUVIGNON An opulent Cabernet Sauvignon: rich, dark and fruity with a spicy finish. The French oak nuances add to the powerful palate with vanilla & wood. Excellent with red meat and game. Best served at room temperature. SHIRAZ A velvety Shiraz full of subtle peppery and spicy fruit characters. The palate in balanced, rich and full bodied, finishing with fine wood tannins. Excellent with lamb, pasta and cheese. Best served at room temperature. MERLOT An expressive red wine evoking aromas of ripe plum and black cherry. Its full palate reveals a fine balance of smooth tannins. The moderate maturation in new French oak adds softness and roundness. Try with beef, pasta and cheese. Best served at room temperature. ROSE WINES ROSE du PRINTEMPS A blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz, Domaine Wardy’s Rosé du Printemps is a deliciously fruity rose with attractive berry flavours. It is perfect with appetizers and light dishes; and goes surprisingly well with oriental and spicy cuisines. Best served chilled. WHITE WINES - BLENDS PRIVATE SELECTION WHITE A superbly aromatic blend of Muscat and Viognier that has been aged in new French oak barrels. This exclusive wine (in limited numbered bottles) offers astonishing aromas of papaya and dried apricot. The palate is full buttery and persistent with hints of dried fruits and hazelnut. Excellent as an aperitif or with foie gras, blue cheese & chocolate deserts. Best served chilled. CLOS BLANC A fresh and crispy blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ugni Blanc & Clairette with hints of tropical fruits, lime and honey. Excellent with seafood and starters. Best served chilled. WHITE WINES – VARIETELS PERLE du CHATEAU An extraordinary Chardonnay that captivates the senses with its elegance, complexity and roundness. It is a smooth wine that offers powerful tropical fruit and peach aromas combined with honey and spice flavours. The balanced use of French oak adds depth and softness. Excellent with seafood, creamy and oriental dishes. Best served chilled. SAUVIGNON BLANC A fruity and vivacious white wine, with a surprisingly fresh burst of pineapple and nectarine aromas and flavours. Ideal with appetizers, seafood and spicey dishes.
