DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:
This time we will hike while enjoying the fresh air and watching the beautiful summer sunset. So, don’t miss the opportunity to contemplate the sky and the nature of the region from the hill we are going to be. It is the hill of Hardine, “Phoenician Temple: This temple of God Mercury” located at an altitude of 1700 m above sea level. A big white cross stand there overlooking breathtaking views.
Our trail is easy, as all sunset hikes. We will walk ascendant for about 5 km to reach the top of the hill;
The hike will start from Hardine village’s center. We will visit the important landmarks and get a clear explanation about them; for example, The Historic Monastery of St. Georges.
The «rocky tile of Hardine» is a must to see; it is one of the biggest in Lebanon, has many marine fossils, and is sloped to the west.
Hardin is a village, known by its caves-churches and rich in remains of ancient civilizations; we will remark sarcophagi, old historic churches, old grape, olive presses, and many Nawawiss carved in the rock. The trail will lead us to the house of St. Hardin, a most picturesque place where the sight and sound of the place will make you forget the city, your problems, and everything!
The headquarters of the Maronite Patriarchate was located in Hardine before it was moved to Wadi Qannoubine.
HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy, 4 to 6 for intermediate, 7 to 9 for strenuous
The sunset hike will be divided into three levels:
LEVEL 5 (5 Km) will walk to reach the caves-churches overlooking the Batroun area. They were recently built to accommodate people seeking spiritual reflections in silence. From there, it will continue until the Phoenician temple: this majestic 30-column temple of the god Mercury dates back to the time of Emperor Hadrian Augustus (117-137 AD), and offers a very unique spectacle in all directions.
LEVEL 3 plus (Km) the same as level 5, will walk to reach the old monastery ‘Deir Mar Fawqa’ overlooking the village of Hardin.
LEVEL 2 is the same, but it will just be a visit to all the beautiful sights there like a tour,
Hardin’s hike is not just a hike in very beautiful nature, huge trees, and breathtaking views; It is also a cultural tour.
As usual, we will end tonight’s adventure with a warm gathering around a burning fire for a homemade spiced dinner on sage, boiled tea, cooked by local villagers.
This sunset hike must not be missed. It will imprint unforgettable memories of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Don’t let any adventure go by untried. Live your life to the fullest!
