The county ("caza" in Arabic ) of Zgharta-Zawieh covers two areas , the zawieh and the jurd. The word "zawie" in Arabic means the "corner"; and this region was named zawie because it was towards the end of the northern corner of Lebanon. The word "jurd" refers to the mountainous part of the area.

Zgharta Profile Lebanon The Zgharta Zawie County is in the region known as North Lebanon and is situated between four other counties within the region - the County of Tripoli to the west and North, the County of Besharre to the South, the County of Koura to the South West, and finally the County of Menieh - Dannieh to the East North. If forms part of the electoral area known as the North Lebanon Constituency 2nd district - which includes Tripoli, El Minieh ,Zgharta, Batroum and Koura.

The County of Zgharta Zawieh occupies an area of approximately 185 square kilometres. Its principal administrative centre is at the town of Zgharta, which is 150 metres above sea level and lies between the rivers of Jouit and Rashein. It is 7 kilometres from the coastal city of Tripoli, 91 kilometres from the capital of Lebanon, Beruit and 82 kilometres from the nearest Syrian city, Tartous

The lowest point in the County is nearly 40 metres above sea level (2.5 km away from the Mediterranean Sea) and the highest point is 2800 metres in altitude.

The annual rain precipitation average is nearly 750 mm with an average of 255 sunny days per year.

December, January and February are the coldest (7-14 degrees C, average) and wettest the months of the year ( 130 to 160 mm average/month) and June, July and August are the hottest ( 26 to 30 degrees C, average).
